PCTFE (KEL-F)

Polychlorotrifluoroethylene, commonly known as PCTFE (and, until a few years ago, as KEL-F), is a fluorinated polymer produced by the polymerisation of chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE). PCTFE is characterised by having a greater number of chlorine atoms than fluorine atoms. This higher proportion results in a lower melting point (218°C) but makes the material more rigid and impermeable. The main characteristic of this material is its ability to maintain all its properties unchanged over a wide temperature range (-240°C – +204°C), making it particularly suitable for cryogenic applications and for contact with hydrogen.
